Kids Korner – A place especially for YOU!

Have you ever imaged yourself fighting a giant. Well, a young boy name David not only imaged it, but had fought a giant named Goliath. This is the story of David and Goliath.

In the valley of Elah, two great armies faced each other, the Philistines and the Israelites. The Philistines worship idols and had many gods, but the Israelites worship only one god, who they called their Lord. The Israelites want the Philistines to leave their land, but they would not.

Finally one day, there was a great stirring in the Philistine camp. A giant warrior, ten feet tall, dressed in bronze armor and carrying a large spear started walking towards the Israelites. “I am Goliath” he called out in a loud voice. “Let one of you come and fight me so this war can be over.”

There was a young boy named David in the Israelite camp that heard Goliath’s challenge. “I will fight him,” said David. “You are only a boy,” said the King of Israel. “We cannot let a boy go against a giant.” But David had faith in God that He would give him the strength he needed to defeat Goliath.

So the King agreed. But the armor and sword that the King offered David was too large and heavy. “I will fight the giant with my own weapon and in my own way,” David said.

Next Sunday night, we will learn what weapon David used when he went to fight Goliath. On a piece of paper, draw what you think David looked like and what you think Goliath look like. Don’t forget that Goliath was a giant.
